RESOLUTION 2018- fl <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL <br /> OF OCEAN CITY TO ESTABLISH A BICYCLE & <br /> PEDESTRIAN ADVISORY COMMITTEE (BPAC) <br /> WHEREAS, at the November 14, 2017 Transportation Committee Meeting, the <br /> Committee reviewed the concept of the Town applying for designation as a Bicycle Friendly <br /> Community (BFC) and provided direction for this concept to be presented to the "Green <br /> Team" Committee for further review; and <br /> WHEREAS, at the January 10, 2018 Coastal Resources Legislative Committee <br /> "Green Team" Meeting,the Committee voted to provide the Mayor& City Council with a <br /> presentation to for the Town to consider pursuing designation as a BFC; and <br /> WHEREAS, at the March 13, 2018 Council Work Session, the Mayor& City Council <br /> reviewed the Agenda Item to consider the Town pursuing designation as a BFC and at the <br /> April 10, 2018 Council Work Session, the Mayor& City Council approved the motion for the <br /> Town to pursue designation as a BFC; and <br /> WHEREAS, establishing a BPAC is an integral component of the Town's interest in <br /> becoming a BFC; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Town seeks to provide the following benefits of becoming a BFC: <br /> Safety while biking in Town, increased opportunities to apply for Grant Funding; better <br /> infrastructure for promoting bicycle Tourism activities; improving Health and Recreation <br /> opportunities; increasing Property Values in Town; and decreasing Traffic congestion and <br /> vehicle emissions; and <br /> WHEREAS, Maryland is recognized as the #11 "Bicycle Friendly State" by the <br /> League of American Bicyclists (LAB) 2017 Rankings; and <br /> WHEREAS, other jurisdictions in Maryland have successfully created BPAC's, <br /> including: Frederick, Hagerstown, Baltimore, Columbia, Salisbury, Rockville, and DC; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Town is actively engaged in establishing bike routes in Town, with <br /> LAW OFFICES existing bike routes established on the following Town owned streets: St. Louis Avenue, <br /> AYRES,JENKINS, Assawoman Drive, Jamaica Avenue, Sinepuxent Avenue, and Wight Street. <br /> GORDY&ALMAND,PA, <br /> SUITE 200 <br /> 6200 COASTAL HIGHWAY <br /> OCEAN CITY,MD 21842 <br /> 1 <br />
